Early Learner classes provide a warm, supportive beginning to the social interaction and skills development needed by independent learners. Blooming Grove Academy places primary emphasis on the development of the whole child. We offer a comprehensive program that stresses individual achievement with attention to the learning styles, social growth, and creativity of each child. The curriculum is built around the following key experiences:

• Language skills
• Understanding of time and space
• Logical reasoning of classification, number, and movement
• Representation of ideas through materials and drama

Class sizes are limited to 12 - 15 students. Classes have one certified teacher and have a full- or part-time teaching assistant.

Physical Development
Physical activity enhances the academic process. A certified physical education teacher is on staff at Blooming Grove Academy part time, and classroom teachers also plan movement activities for their classes. Early Learners develop gross and fine motor skills through a variety of eye-hand coordination activities and expressive experiences. Skills and strategies that have applications in academics are often introduced in the recreational activities.

Social/Emotional Development
Blooming Grove Academy places great emphasis on respecting others and building each student's self-confidence. Students and teachers are on a first-name basis, sharing life's experiences in Blooming Grove's close-knit school community. Through exploration and understanding of the 4 R's - Responsibility, Respect, Resourcefulness, and Responsiveness - children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own choices and begin to see how those choices impact members of their learning community. Classroom meetings are used as a way to solve classroom problems and to plan special events or topics of study.
